The quartet

Four voices since 2009

Tenor, lead, baritone and bass: the four Hanfris, where they come from and what they’ve won along the way.

The Hanfris Quartet is a male vocal group formed in 2009. Its four members, each with a long track record in purely vocal groups, bring their skills together for concerts of high technical and interpretive quality, with generous doses of humour.

The show starts from barbershop and broadens out into a lively, joyful programme that connects with the audience: rock & roll covers, jazz standards, swing, musicals, film soundtracks, pop, Catalan rumba and classic barbershop pieces.

They have sung in Catalonia, Spain, Andorra, England, France, Sweden, the Netherlands and the United States, and in 2015 became the first vocal quartet from southern Europe at the International Barbershop Championships, in Pittsburgh. They did it again in 2017, in Las Vegas.

The voices

Jordi Forcadell, tenor of The Hanfris Quartet

Tenor

Jordi Forcadell

Sant Feliu de Llobregat (Barcelona), 1986. He has a degree in Advertising and Public Relations from the University of Barcelona. He studied piano, saxophone and music theory from an early age at the Escola Municipal de Música de Sant Feliu de Llobregat, which let him triumph working for the BBC (not the British Broadcasting Corporation: the real BBC, Bodas, Bautizos y Comuniones — weddings, baptisms and first communions).

Forced to give up that brilliant career by a priest who wanted his cut, he tried his luck singing in choirs across Catalonia, most notably the Cor Madrigal and the ARSinNOVA Cor de Cambra.

He has sung tenor in the Hanfris since the quartet was formed in 2009.

Juan Bertrand, lead of The Hanfris Quartet

Lead

Juan Bertrand

Barcelona, 1986. He studied music theory and piano at the Escola Marshall in Barcelona. He has a degree in Physics from the University of Barcelona and a higher degree in Composition from the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC). He teaches maths and music at a secondary school in Barcelona.

Despite standing 196 centimetres tall, his basketball career is conspicuous by its absence. He has, however, made his name as a lindy hop dancer and teacher, and for years he has sung in Barcelona choirs such as the Cor Jove del Palau de la Música, the ARSinNOVA Cor de Cambra and the Cor Madrigal.

In The Hanfris Quartet he sings lead.

Gener Salicrú, baritone of The Hanfris Quartet

Baritone

Gener Salicrú

Mataró (Barcelona), 1982. Studious, well-behaved, hard-working and sensible, he graduated in Art History from the University of Barcelona. He also earned his higher degree at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (2008) with Josep Fuster and took the advanced course at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (2009). He teaches clarinet at the Conservatori Municipal de Música Josep Maria Ruera in Granollers.

A great lover of the world’s cultures, you’ll always find him chatting with people from everywhere, unless a club anthem comes on: then you’ll have to look for him in the middle of the dance floor.

In the Hanfris he sings baritone.

Adrià Sivilla, bass of The Hanfris Quartet

Bass

Adrià Sivilla

Mataró (Barcelona), 1985. He trained at the Escola de Música d’Argentona and the Aula de Música Masafrets in Mataró, where he studied piano and bassoon, and has sung in several amateur choirs in his home town. He is a telecommunications engineer, specialising in electronic systems, from La Salle in Barcelona.

His afternoons of climbing and gym are behind him, and his curly hippie mane has given way to grey hair like Richard Gere’s, but his unique voice is still a magnet for everyone who hears it. A pity he’s been off the market for some years now.

He has sung bass in The Hanfris Quartet since it was founded.
